Much Ado About Vampires

Much Ado About Vampires (Dark Ones, #9)Much Ado About Vampires by Katie MacAlister
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Corazon and Alec were meant to be together for 100 of years but neither is willing to admit it. Corazon is the reincarnation of Alec's Beloved. Only Alec thinks he is doomed to be soul less since she died 100s of years ago and Corazon hates Vampires but fate has brought them together and Alec is determined to save Corazon from all the demons and power hunger freaks out there that want to use her for their own agenda. Corazon is determined to save herself no matter what.

This is book is part of Katie MacAlister's Dark Ones series. I really enjoy reading this series. It has a fun lighthearted feel with strong female characters and yummy male leads. Its a slightly unique spin on the over done paranormal romance genre. She often brings main characters from other books in as supporting characters so you can catch up on their lives. In this book she brings back Pia and Kristoff whos love story was so complicated that they got 2 books (Zen and the Art of Vampires and Crouching Vampire, Hidden Fang) to cover everything. They just happen to be two of my favorite Dark ones books.

If you like Vampires this is a fun series to read.

In the Company of Vampires

In the Company of Vampires (Dark ones #8, Ben and Fran #3)In the Company of Vampires by Katie MacAlister

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fran is all grown up and she has left the GothFaire behind along with her Dark One boyfriend Ben. But being she hasn’t given up on him she just wants a chance to grow and mature away from the pressure of being Ben's Beloved and her mother's scrutiny. But when her roommate is kidnapped by what appears to be Loki's henchmen. Fran heads back to Europe and GothFaire to take care of Loki once and for all. But Fran is not the only one who has changed in the last 5 years. Ben has a new girlfriend, her mother is missing and there are Shape-shifters all over the place. Fran will need to start using her gift if she is going to solve the mystery and win back Ben's heart.

This is book is part of MacAlister's Dark Ones series and her two short YA books she wrote. And while I loved the story and the series I have been disappointed in the ending of the last few books. Previously she wrapped up the story line and the characters would go off and live happily ever after. Sometimes characters from previous books would make an appearance in the new book but the storyline always felt completed. And if by some tragedy MacAlister was not able to write any longer I would be sad but (cause I do like her books) but not left with that empty what happens next feeling when a series is left undone. However in the last few books in this series; Zen and the Art of Vampires, Crouching Vampire, Hidden Fang and this book MacAlister has been leaving the reader with a little cliff hanger that honestly has made me a bit annoyed. I always feel like it’s a trick to get you to keep reading the authors’ book and I was already reading the series and now I’m feeling coerced. I may be over thinking the whole thing. The book was good and worth the read.

Confessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend

Confessions of a Vampire's GirlfriendConfessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend by Katie MacAlister

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is two short YA stories written by Katie MacAlister writing as Katie Maxwell.

Got Fangs?(Ben and Fran 1): Francesca (Fran) is not having the summer fun she wants to instead of hanging with friends she is hanging with psychics, magicians and people who talk to ghosts. Instead of shopping at the mall she is traveling through Europe with her mom (who is a witch) and a Goth Fair. Then she meets Benedikt the only draw back he is a dark one or vampire. Ben claims that Fran is his Beloved and can save his soul. Fran isn’t so sure she is ready for that at 16 but when Ben's life is in danger Fran risks her own to save him.

Circus of the Darned (Ben and Fran 2): Ben and Fran are having their first date but things get complicated when Fran accidentally summons a clan of Viking Warriors , her horse gets stolen and her mom is putting all sorts of boundaries on her and Ben. Plus Ben is keeping secrets from Fran, she has nothing to wear on her date and the Vikings think Fran is a goddess. To fix everything Fran needs to summon the Viking demi-god Loki but will that really fix anything?

These are two very well written stories by MacAlister. What I like best about her female characters is that they do not wait around for someone else to solve their problems. They are strong independent and more than capable of tackling life head on. The only objection I have to these books is Fran is 16 yrs old and Ben is 300+ yrs old. Although MacAlister does a fine job of only having Ben and Fran kissing and Ben is very gallant in not pressuring Fran and "tying" her to him for all eternity due to her age. And Ben is the one to pull away from kissing because of Fran’s age. It does still irate me.
