The Husband List

The Husband ListThe Husband List by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Caroline Maxwell's mother has a list not your average ordinary list its a list of potential husbands for Caroline and Caroline is not happy about it. She would rather be on a grand adventure or a lecture at the museum. Or at least have a say on who is on the list instead of the stuffy Lord Bremerton she wants her brother's friend Jack on the list but he according to her mother is not acceptable his money is to new.

Despite her mothers objections Caroline and Jack are determined to be together and the only way that will be possible is if they can prove that the great Lord Bremerton is hiding something big and is not th e man he claims.

Caroline was a fun character to read and was surprisingly appealing. In fact I liked her so much that I finished the book in one night. Did I mention it was a fast read. Jack like all heroes was conflicted about loving Caroline, witty and very yummy to read about. What could be a better way to spend an evening?

Hemingway's Girl

Hemingway's GirlHemingway's Girl by Erika Robuck
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Its 1935 in Key West Florida and Mariella Bennet is struggling to hold her family together after the tragic death of her father. Doing odd jobs and when necessary gambling to pay the rent and her sisters hospital bills. On one fateful day her path crosses that of Ernest Hemingway the famous millionaire writer and she ends up as the Hemingway's housekeeper.

Her life is not instantly better her mother doesn't want her to work for The Hemingways because of Ernest's bad reputation, Paulette Hemingway is suspicious of Mariella's relationship with her husband, Ernest is constantly flirting with Mariella and then there is Gavin, the WWI veteran working on the Overseas Highway.

Mariella is torn between the two men and in one summer her life will be forever changed.

I loved loved loved this book. I really can not express how much I enjoyed reading this book. Very quickly I was swept away to the Florida Keys (I have an urge to sing a Beach Boys song). Instantly I was connected to Mariella who just wanted adventure but was stuck with responsibilities of caring for her family. As she struggles to cope with her moms depression and falling in love with not one but two different men.

In one book I laughed, cried and craved Key Lime Pie. If you are a fan of Hemingway's book you will love this story.

The Man in the Empty Suit

Man in the Empty SuitMan in the Empty Suit by Sean Ferrell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you were a time traveler how would you spent your birthday every year? Why not travel to the future to celebrate the 100th anniversary of your birth? And why not spend the night drinking and partying with other versions; past, present and future, of yourself. You would be experiencing the same event from a different prospective every year. After so many years you aren't expecting any surprises but then your 39 year old self find your 40 year old self dead.

Your younger selves are suspicious of everything you do and the elders that may hold the answers are leaving meaningless clues that leave you more confused. And what does the mysterious woman Lily have to do with the murder and why is she showing up at the party. Now you have to travel 6 months into the past to solve your own murder.

This is the basic premise of Man in the Empty Suit.

It took me awhile to read this book. I picked it up read the first 38 pages and then stopped. It sat for awhile before I picked it up and decided to start over again.

I couldn't decide if I liked this book or not. I am not a fan of Science Fiction and I really not a fan of time travel books. The writing was great and the story moved along nicely. At times I even felt "The Man in the Suit's" anguish and frustration at not being to change the future. But the paradoxes of time travel and the barge of characters that were the same person at different ages was annoying to me.

In deciding if I liked it, it came down to would I recommend this book to others or reread the book? And I decided yes to both. I don't think the book is for everyone but if you already like sci-fi and books on time travel then you should add this book to your to be read list. And I would reread the book, I liked "the Man in the Suit" as a character. The story was new to me and I found it intriguing. Once I got past the mental hump I was having with the characters I enjoyed reading the book.

Touch of Frost

Touch of Frost (Mythos Academy, #1)Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Gwen Frost is not having a good year. A month after her mother's death her grandmother enrolls her in the exclusive Mythos Academy. Where she will earn reading, writing, ancient myths and how to fight like an ancient warrior. Its not your average school but Gwen is not your average student. She has a special gift, she can see a persons past just by touching them or an object they touched.

But when a student is killed in the Library of Antiquities and The Bowl of Tears is stolen, Gwen is determined to solve the mystery. In the processes she makes a few new friends, discovers the schools secret, and her destiny.

This book is not going to be an award winning book but it is a series that captures your attention. If only for a minute. Gwen is a good female character that has doubts, insecurities and determined to do the right thing no matter how dangerous.

I would not let a younger teenager read this book to much sex drugs and murder but 15 and older it might be okay. While the other characters are drinking and having sex Gwen isn't and doesn't seem to get while everyone else is behaving this way. She is killing a few people but then what is a hero to do when faced with an enemy.
