A Perfect Blood

A Perfect Blood (The Hollows, #10)A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Life has not been easy for Rachel Morgan since she acknowledge that she is a demon. No one will hire her and she can't even get her drivers licence. But now that mutilated bodies are popping up all over Cincinnati both the FIB and IS need Rachel's help. Or someone to blame. Rachel along with Ivy and Jenks are hot on the trail of the killers but they keep getting away. Someone on the inside is tipping them off. To keep everyone save Rachel will have to trust Trent and truly embrace the demon part of her.

I love Rachel Morgan has a character this time around Rachel is struggling with the fact that Ivy and Jenks are moving on in their lives. She is happy for them but also sad that she is stuck and unable to take that step herself. Especially now that her mom has moved away and she has cut herself off from the ley line magic. Not to mention that whole demon thing ostracizing her from the world.

Do you ever get the feeling when you are reading a book in a series and that series will soon end? That's how I felt reading this book. Jenks and Ivy moving on, Glenn leaving and Rachel coming to terms with her witch born demon life. All these things plus the weird relationship developing between Trent and Rachel give me the feeling that soon their will be no more Rachel Morgan books. I cant decide if Kim Harrison is taking us down a new path or if she will soon be ending the series. I hope its the latter.

I did miss Al in this book. I hope he is in the next one more.

I really enjoy this series.

Pale Horses

Pale Demon (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows #9)Pale Demon by Kim Harrison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rachel needs to be in San Francisco by the end of the week to keep from being permanently shunned. Unfortunately she's going to have to drive and Jenks and Ivy are along to protect Rachel. And Trent is along because he needs a body guard to get him to Seattle. If Rachel agrees to help Trent he will testify at the council on Rachel's behalf. Just to make the trip more fun Trent has a trio of elf assassins chasing them, the council has sent Vivien to spy on them and some one let lose a day walking demon who has decided to destroy Rachel.

OOOOHHHH...this one is so good. There is a lot of action, plot twists and relationship drama. I love that Rachel is growing as a person and accepting the role she is playing in the future, even if she goes kicking and screaming. I don’t want to ruin the plot for anyone reading this so all I am going to say is go read it if you haven’t already,

Black Magic Sanction

Black Magic Sanction (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #8)Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rachel has been shunned by all in the magical community and beyond being unable to get supplies and no one besides Ivy and Jenks will talk to her its not so bad. That is until she is attacked in the grocery store and through Trent she discovers that someone told the Coven that she is part demon, and now they want her dead, imprisoned or lobotomized. And just as she is wrapping her idea around that idea she is summoned via ex-boyfriend Nick to the Coven to face her charges and be locked up in prison. Luckily Rachel has friends and escapes also with Nicks help. What happens next is an adventure in survival that never stops. Not only is Rachel not able to catch her breath the reader isn’t either. Just when thinks are looking calm Trent possibly tries to kill her, she is attack by the Coven again, goes on the run, is attacked again and rescued by Nick again, Al shows up, Nick tries to kill her, the church is attacked, Mahtlida gets killed, Rachel gets kidnapped again, and rescued by Lee and Pierce, decides to steal from Trent, you get the picture.

As always I enjoy Rachel as a character. In this book we see a little growth and maturity as Rachel starts to come to terms with her demon half. We see Al and Rachel develop a relationship beyond just that of demon teacher and witch student. Her relationship with Pierce I don’t get. I am not sure I like him and mostly he annoys me. Rachel still makes mistakes in her refusal to not to black magic that costs Mahtlida her life and almost Jenks life.

Overall a really good book that will keep Rachel Morgan fans happy. It ties up some lingering questions about why Jenks's health is still good and Rachel and Trent’s relationship. It also doesn’t leave you hanging. You know what Rachel will do next but I am not so frantic to grab Pale Horse to see what happens next in the Hollows. Which is good, like Rachel I need a breather.

White Witch Black Curse

White Witch, Black Curse (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #7)White Witch, Black Curse by Kim Harrison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rachel Morgan cant remember who killed Kistin even though she was with him when he died. Determined to get her memory back Rachel returns to Kistin's boat with her therapist Ford. But as they are leaving the receive word that FIB officer and good friend Glenn has been badly injured. And not by a human!!!! While investigating the death of a friend Glenn stumbles upon a Banshee, her human husband and their baby daughter.

Now the FIB wants Vampric Charm to help bring in the rogue Banshee. Even though everyone knows you can’t bring a Banshee in unless they want to come in Rachel and team decide to help anyway they can.

And if that wasn’t enough stress in Rachel's life her older brother Robbie is visiting, thinks are looking to heat up with Marshal, a ghost from her past has shown up, Al is behaving in true demon form, Rachel's mother is moving out west, Ivy is blaming herself for Kistin's death and the rogue Banshee and now Rachel is being shunned by the entire witch community. Just another week in the life of Rachel

It took me awhile to read this book. I was very upset the Kistin was killed. I liked him a lot and thought he was good for Rachel. I picked the book up several times before progressing past page 43. And as always it was a roller coater ride.

Kim Harrison has a way with a plot twist that you never see it coming until it slams into you head first and leaves you gasping.

For a Few Demons More

Making deals with demons doesn’t make Rachel Morgan a black witch just a white witch with issues. Issues that have come back to haunt and destroy her. Issue #1 Hiding a demon artifact from everyone on both sides of the ley lines. Issue #2 Agree to work security for Trents wedding. Issue #3 Al the demon had possessed his familiar Lee's body to attend the wedding. Issue #4 Trent, Al and all the werewolves in Cincinnati are looking for the demon artifact.

Rachel Morgan is one of my favorite characters. She's constantly growing and changing and making mistakes. She always trying to protect the people she loves even from themselves. She fights for those who need protection even when that means risking her own life or soul. For a nonhuman shes surprisingly human.
