I am not an expert on Abraham Lincoln's life. I know he was the 16th President. That his election as President along with a few other events lead to the South seceding from the Union and the start of the Civil War. He emancipated the slaves, wrote the Gettysburg address and was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in the Ford Theater. I may know a fact or two more if I thinking about it. You may also think you know a lot about life but after reading this controversial biography you may be thinking how did they keep the exists of Vampires a secret all these years and how did we not know that Lincoln was a vampire hunter.

We discover that in addition to Lincolns disgust with slavery he begins to understand (with the help of another vampire) that the bigger threat slavery imposes is the easy access vampires have to a food supply and how this helps them gain a strangling foot hold in our young nation.

Focusing more on his earlier life rather than the years of his Presidency the book explores how Mr. Lincoln discovered that vampires exists and how the death of his mother at the hands of a vampire lead him on the journey that ended up with him being elected President.

Okay all joking aside....I truly enjoyed this book. Full of historical facts (with footnotes and historical pictures) about Lincoln you will find yourself questioning, “Was Lincoln really a vampire hunter and is that the reason behind the Civil War?” It just seems to make sense even if you don't believe in vampires. Which I don't. But recently when watching a documentary on the Civil War I keep saying to my boyfriend they are wrong Lincoln did that because of the vampires.

This book, written like a biography, is a quick easy read. And despite the title is surprisingly with out  gore. Yes vampires die by losing heads and in other gruesome ways it is all told rather matter fact with out to much detail to the blood and guts.

Bossypants

What can one say about Tina Fey? She is witty, talented and has a wonderful self deprecating sense of humor. She is a self proclaimed nerd that is lucky enough to write, produce and star in one of the funniest shows on TV. Tina Fey tells her story in such a way that you will find yourself saying hey I did that and that would so happen to me also. Its an amazing every girl story that I would love to have every teenage girl read.

I love reading biographies. I really enjoy reading about peoples lives and better understanding their journey. Tina Fey tells a great story that flows well from point A to point B. Its quirky and entertaining from beginning to end.  If you are expecting a tell all who slept with who book and who hated who...then go read Tommy Lees biography but if your looking for a fun quick read that will keep you laughing then this is the book for you.

In Tucker Max's own words he is an asshole. He drinks to much, sleep with to many women, mocks idiots and basically indulges in all the behavior our mothers taught us not to do. And for some reason decided to start a website and write a book about all his asinine behavior. And for some reason as a society we embrace him for being this asshole.

Reading this book I could not find one redeeming quality in Tucker Max other than his complete honesty that he is an asshole. I could not decided if Tucker Max was providing us with a cautionary tale to avoid ending up like him or a how to lead a life of debauchery manual. Either way I was routinely appalled and laughing my ass off. The feminist part of me was disgusted but the other part couldn’t stop laughing. If you only have time to read one story you must read The Austin Road Trip, hands down the funniest thing I have read in a long time.

This is the true life romance story of city girl meets cowboy we have all been reading about for years and pretending we don’t. While staying with her parents, Ree Drummond was regrouping after a move from California and planning her next step in life to conquer Chicago when a casual night out with friends introduced her to her Marlboro Man. The kind of man every good romance with a cowboy is written about. Causing Ree to change her plan to move to Chicago and instead conquer the heart of a cowboy and life as the wife of a rancher.

To be honest I am a big fan of Ree's blog I check it daily. And I had already read the story of their romance on her blog. But the story is just as good the second time around. She has added a few new stories and the last part of her book picks up where her blog story ended and takes us through the 1st year of marriage.

Wither she is dealing with her ex-boyfriend J, ignoring her parents impeding divorce, her uncontrollable sweating or her post-partum depression, Ree is open and honest. And this is very enduring. While reading this story you are laughing and crying right along with Ree, seeing a little bit of yourself in her and secretly falling half in love with her Marlboro Man.

Chelsea Handler from the famed Chelsea Lately show on E is back with another pee your pants funny book. Chelsea covers everything from fake dog funerals, getting her driver laid and her father’s nutty borderline insane behavior.

I love reading Chelsea's books. From the first line to the last word I am laughing until I cant breathe. You really must pick this book up.

A Paper Life

A Paper Life by Tatum O'Neal

Tatum O'Neal did not lead an average life nor did she have the typical "Hollywood" upbringing. A Paper Life starts with her earliest memories and brings us to date on the actresses life including her acting debuted opposite her dad in Paper Moon and her marriage to tennis player John McEnroe. She has been through neglect, abuse, abandonment and drug addiction.

I love a auto-biography that does not make excuses for bad behavior or tries to justify action but rather tells the authors story as they perceived it. Tatum O'Neal does just that without pulling punches or unnecessarily being mean to the people in her life. It was a quick engaging read and I recommend it to anyone who loves to read autobiographies and biography.
